Bord Iascaigh Mhara helps to develop the Irish Seafood Industry by providing technical expertise, business support and funding.

Each year BIM produce an Aquaculture Survey – a state of the nation on how Ireland’s seafood industry is performing by county and by species. The Survey by its nature carries a lot of intense data. Our design brief was to convey this information in a visually engaging and user friendly way.

In the 2017 Aquaculture Survey we decided to transport the reader into the environment of the people who work within this industry. The imagery was crucial – epic landscapes and environmental portraits of workers form the backdrop for the information. A rich colour palette, evoking the blues and greens of the Irish sea was chosen. Coarse brush strokes, a reminder of the jagged Irish coastline, were used to house headlines as well as anchor each spread.

The statistical results of the Aquaculture Survey, were colour coded by fish species which allowed the reader to easily see the size of individual industries within each county. This system also allowed comparison of results from one county to the next.

The brochure was printed on an un-coated recycled stock which gave a tactile texture and enhanced the natural quality of the Survey.
