Guinness is more than a pint. Born in Dublin 8 in 1759, Guinness is synonymous with The Liberties — They built and were built there. The Guinness workers of Edwardian Dublin carved out a community in The Liberties, hardworking and lined with knowledge, that lit the path for future generations. The neighbourhood is a warren of skills and stories, knuckled and knitted together. A City within a City, where the gate is always open and the Guinness Brewery is at the helm.

In true neighbourly spirit, the Department of Communication Design collaborated with Guinness' Open Gate Brewery in a Knowledge Transfer Project that sought to activate the creative minds of students in Dublin 8.

This mural references the mastery of brewing that takes place at St James Gate the home of experimentation. The abstract silhouettes employed reference the hidden processes of the master brewers within the Open Gate Brewery. A keen eye will spot the words 'OPEN GATE' hidden throughout the artwork.

The 20 x 70 ft illustration was hand painted within the St James Gate site over a 5 day period.
