CultureCRAFT is a showcase of the work of 36 makers who have responded to curator Seliena Coyle’s request for them to create an object which reflects their understanding of culture; and of how material objects can carry a community’s shared history and reflect a cultural perspective. Initially part of the Derry-Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013, the exhibition has gone on to the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny.
The 192pp catalogue features essays on contemporary craft and culture, work from the 36 makers, along with documented residencies and community workshops. The neon sign featured in shots around Derry city was the jumping off point for the bold colour and bright foil on the cover.
The body text is Caravel, a contemporary grotesque by Irish type designer Bobby Tannam.
