The business and cultural community of ‘Museum Quarter’ Amsterdam briefed us to come up with a campaign to promote their neighbourhood, as part of a place branding initiative ‘Enrich Yourself’. Their canvas was a building-wrap on two facing street corners, located at one of Amsterdam’s busiest junctions and opposite the world-famous Stedelijk Museum.

With literally a blank canvas, we decided to comment on smartphone addiction and created a thought-provoking installation ‘Stop, Look, Listen, Think’. The four words are a reappropriation of the iconic road safety slogan and were made-to-measure for the four different panels of the building wrap. ‘Stop, Look, Listen, Think’ is a poignant plea to reassess technology habits and re-engage with the real world.

In terms of design, the refined yet playful typography is inspired by the celebrated Art Nouveau architecture of the Museum Quarter.

‘Stop, Look, Listen, Think’ quickly caught the imagination of the public (somewhat ironically becoming a huge hit on social media) and sparked a dialogue about the role technology plays in our social interactions. The bold statement garnered loads of free media coverage and, importantly, boosted brand awareness of the Museum Quarter neighbourhood.
