Culture Night returns across Ireland on Friday 20 September and for the first time ever, the 100 Archive is participating. To make up for lost time we have teamed up with designers and cultural venues in not one, not two, but THREE locations across the country to begin with a bang! We have talks, workshops and drop-in activities in Cork, Letterkenny and Wexford created for all ages to get to know design and the 100 Archive a little better. Read on for details...

CORK

Design the Future, 5—7.30pm

The Lifetime Lab, Cork's Old Waterworks, Lee Road, Cork city

In Cork we team up with Hurrah Hurrah, Chapter and artist Deirdre Breen to deliver talks and workshops in the Lifetime Lab. Looking at the role of design now and in the future, we invite people to explore how design can help us to meet the challenges our world is facing through a hands-on family printing workshop, while a programme of short talks teases out the role of creativity in our world now and in the future.

Family workshop, 5—6.30pm

What challenges does our planet face and how can design help us overcome these challenges? This hands-on workshop for children and families is an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for a better future — for us, for our city, for the planet — and create a monoprint poster to communicate those ideas. Led by artist Deirdre Breen, this is an opportunity to cook up great ideas and get your hands dirty with some printmaking! This workshop is free but booking is required, and it is advised that you wear old clothes: monoprinting gets messy!

Drop in talks, 5.30—7.30pm

Drop in for short talks from the 100 Archive as well as a number of designers, illustrators and educators about the role creativity has to play in the world now and in the future. No booking required.

LETTERKENNY

Audition to be an Ambassador, 6—9pm

An Grianán Theatre Plaza, Port Road, Letterkenny

ODDesign and An Grianán Theatre have collaborated on a number of design projects together, including 100 Archive selected 'A Little Bit Extra' and their latest campaign, An Grianán Ambassadors, which puts An Grianán's audience centrestage. Come find us at Theatre Plaza to find out more about the 100 Archive, see our 2018 selection projected on An Grianán's facade and audition to be an An Grianán Ambassador!

WEXFORD

Designing Wexford, 7—8.30pm

Blue Egg Gallery, John's Gate Street, Wexford town

Have you ever wondered how the buildings, streets, signs, furniture, advertisements, clothing and media surrounding us came to be the way they are? And have you ever thought you might change some of these things for the better? Join Fuse:d, the South East’s design and business network and the 100 Archive to redesign Wexford in the Blue Egg Gallery!

This hands-on, interactive workshop is a fun opportunity to learn how design affects everything around us, from the coffee cups we drink out of to the streets we walk along, the websites we browse and even the services we use. Local designers will be on hand to guide you through the design thinking process, showing you how, through collaboration, you can use your creativity and imagination to identify problems and opportunities in your surroundings and design your own solutions. You might create a tourism campaign for Wexford, new way finding, design a new building or public space for the town, find ways to encourage recycling, or who knows what else?! You will develop and share your ideas through discussion, writing and drawing. This event is for all ages and no booking is required; everyone is welcome to come and share their ideas!
