This year the changing of the guard occurs for both of our panels. Here we introduce our new Archive Panel 2018/20, but first off a massive thanks goes to James Cullen, Aoife Flynn, Kasia Ozmin, Eamon Spelman and Paul Woods for selecting the past three Archive Selections. It's no mean feat to assess 300—400 projects and whittle them down to 100 each year, and we really appreciate having their input for the past three years.
Each year's Archive Selection is the result of a two stage assessment process. The first sweep is done by the professional panel and then once they have completed their task, along comes the Archive Panel to make the final selection. They each shortlist 100—150 projects, selecting work that can be described as good, well-executed, well-crafted, relevant, revelatory, innovative, interesting, a strong response to a brief, a reflection of life/culture/business/society today, or a combination of those. Here's who we think is up to the task:
Noelle Cooper
Noelle Cooper is co-founder and Creative Director of Dublin-based studio Unthink. Since 2007, they've worked with a host of public and private clients across many sectors including cultural, corporate and NGOs. Noelle received her BA in Visual Communications from Dublin Institute of Technology, and she has recently been appointed as a visiting lecturer on their Vis Comm programme in the Gengdan Institute of Beijing University. She is a visiting lecturer in the Department of Communication Design in NCAD and is part of the international tutorial team on the Design West Summer School.
Damian Cranney
Damian is founder and managing partner at Big Motive – a design and innovation studio that creates digital products and service experiences for startups, brands and enterprises across many industries. A career-long advocate of collaborative and human-centred approaches to innovation, Damian has worked with a diverse list of clients including Allstate, BBC, Channel 4, Danske Bank, Diageo, Honda, National Trust, Net-a-Porter, Nike and Oracle. Damian is also a design thinking coach and startup advisor as well as a frequent speaker on design in business and technology. He has lectured on various University design courses and delivers executive training in service design and applied innovation. He is currently external examiner for Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s Digital Design degree programme.
John Gavin
John Gavin is the owner and Creative Director of TrueOutput:, a studio whose work encompasses strategy, design and technology. His projects span the design of brand identity, print, packaging, environments, websites, film and moving image. He brings his experience from working in both London and Ireland to national and international clients, from FTSE 100 companies, SME’s and individuals, winning multiple awards for his work. He has a commitment to creativity, making the complicated simple and finding the beauty in truth. John joins the Archive Panel having previously been a part of the 100 Archive Professional Panel 2015/17.
Lucia Orlandi
Lucia Orlandi is an Irish multidisciplinary creative director and designer. For the past decade she's worked in Dublin, Toronto, San Francisco and New York, bringing a deliberate global perspective to her work. Currently at R/GA, she leads creative for Google, Mailchimp, The Ad Council and more. Working at the intersection of culture and technology, she has a future-facing leadership approach informed by an attention to impact, an ability to empower, and a curiosity-driven mindset. Her work has been recognised by Cannes Lions, The One Club, and Communication Arts.
Lucia stays committed to her craft by contributing to Ladies Get Paid and Where Are the Boss Ladies, movements that advocate for women’s value in the workplace. In 2017 she was named a One Club and 3% Movement Next Creative Leader, and she was recently named one of The Dots’ 200 Women Redefining the Creative Industry in 2018.
Nathalie Weadick
Nathalie Weadick is a curator of architecture and spatial practice based in Dublin. She is director of the Irish Architecture Foundation, an organisation committed to communicating the culture of architecture and urbanism to the public. In 2017/18 she was assistant to Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell, the Curators of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia. In 2015 she was Architecture Advisor to the Year of Irish Design ID2015, where she co-curated with Raymund Ryan three exhibitions presenting Irish architecture in London, Chicago and Shenzhen.
