20 Kildare Street is a unique and premium multi-tenancy office space, located in the heart of Dublin just off Stephen’s Green. Entering through a row of renovated grand Georgian terraces, you arrive in a modern light-filled atrium, which links the modern office to the historic rear. This combination of Georgian elegance with contemporary architectural design full of light and shade, formed the basis for the signage and wayfinding scheme throughout the building which we designed, developed and managed through to installation.

Taking inspiration from the materials, tones and shapes employed by architects RKD within the building, we carried these across all signage elements. From the oversized hand-rolled bronze numerals, elegantly bringing a sense of quiet luxury to minimal monochrome lift lobbies, to the understated Corian tactile wayfinding signs, ensuring the signage scheme felt part of the overall fabric of the building.

Regulatory safety decals on the doors and glass, needed to maintain connection from street level while also introducing a sense of privacy. The distinct ribbed aqua tiles within the building provided inspiration, with their vertical linear flow carrying onto glass areas, creating a playful interplay of lines on doors when viewed up close, and a soft ethereal haze when viewed from afar. On sunny days, they evolve to introduce an extra dimension, as minimal shadows are cast, creating a sublime tactile temporary pattern on floors and walls.

The intent was to ensure the high-end finish of the building, was also upheld within the signage scheme, to allow hero signs to stand proud and to sing, whilst wayfinding signs were able to recede, becoming part of the materiality of the space.
