Ace and Deuce of Piping Concert Poster 2023

Following on from my design for last year's poster, again I took inspiration from the Ace card in the Tarot deck where the Ace card depicts a large hand appearing from the clouds holding either a wand, a sword, a cup or a pentacle. Instead I placed a set of uilleann pipes in the hands appearing from the clouds.

This year's design builds on the idea I used last year of the piper playing from the clouds (a recurring motif in Irish folklore), however the hands in this illustration are feminine with their nails painted and manicured.

This was a subtle reference to the album of piping music Mná Na bPíob Uilleann (Women of Piping) that Na Píobairí Uilleann brought out this year, challenging the stereotypical image of a piper as an old man.
