We were commissioned by An Post to create two stamps that would raise awareness of cancer and communicate a sense of hope. Cancer research and care are much more than statistics, laboratory work or medical terms; the people involved are paramount — carers, friends, family, doctors, and nurses—and we wanted to speak to them and the range of experiences of those whose life has been touched by cancer. Following insightful conversations with the Irish Cancer Society to inform the topic of Cancer Awareness, we focussed on two main themes — ‘Hope in Research’ and ‘Strength in Community’.

With these headings, we produced a design that would feel hopeful and speak to the positive impact of advances in research for all forms of cancer. We also wanted to reflect on the impact of care and support for cancer patients, not only in medicine but also in the community.
