Developed by the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, ASPACE is an assisted spatial prioritisation software that supports the design and evaluation of climate-resilient, socially acceptable, and economically viable marine spatial policy scenarios. It integrates climate change modelling, stakeholder value assessment, and economic modelling into a comprehensive, interactive tool for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.

ASPACE was co-created with marine spatial planners and other marine sector stakeholders to enhance their capacity, and that of researchers, to make evidence-based, climate-smart decisions for marine spatial management.

Marine spatial planning and ASPACE scenarios are fundamentally about visualising and allocating space in the marine environment. This allocation of space reduces conflicts of interest and enhances synergies among sectors such as fisheries, renewable energy, tourism, aquaculture, and shipping.

We reflected this concept in the creation of the ASPACE wordmark. In design, allocating and organising space often involves a typographic grid, which brings order, structure, and coherence. By placing a grid over the wordmark, we created modules of space where the lines intersect with the characters, resulting in a new spatial arrangement within the wordmark. Vertical grid lines that emphasise the division of space and rich duotone images are combined with the wordmark throughout the identity.
