Continuing the journey

Our second year working with Barnardos on their digital Annual Report & Financial Statements resulted in a playful evolution with the child’s journey at its core.

The challenge was to build on the visual approach we had developed last year and evolve it with a fresh concept while ensuring optimal accessibility and legibility as well as easy wayfinding.

We developed a visual language focused on a constant line that depicts Barnardos as a reliable, helpful support that is present throughout a person’s childhood and journey into adulthood. This visual language echoes the charity’s tagline “because childhood lasts a lifetime”. We developed the graphic suite to include simple elements that could build an imaginative childlike landscape, bringing the content to life.

In order to showcase the 2022 story of the Barnardos charity in the best possible way, our team worked closely across all aspects of the document including User Experience copywriting, document structuring, content formalisation, and full content design. 

An evolution through accessible design

A key consideration in colour selection and typographic layout was to optimise accessibility and cater for neurodivergencies In terms of accessibility, we closely followed the Dyslexia Styleguide issued by Barnardo's, which is rooted in the guidelines provided by The Irish and the UK Dyslexia Association. This year's report saw a commitment to adhering to best practices for accommodating individuals with colour blindness and neuro-divergencies, in line with our dedication to inclusive design.
