Birds of a Feather Report

Birds of a Feather was a 3-year Shared Island initiative designed to connect women from diverse communities through the act of working side by side, whether through knitting, storytelling, or clay.

We worked closely with Eva Birdthistle and the Birds of a Feather team to get a deep understanding of the project. We have leaned into embroidery, calligraphy, and pattern creation to ensure the final publication went far beyond a standard report. The added embroidery words and elements were created by hand, allowing the design process itself to mirror the care, time and intention at the heart of the initiative. This approach reflected the act of connection through making, and the craft nature of the meetups.

The report itself, published as a bilingual document, is a collection of quotes from participants, alongside other reflective pieces that capture the experiences and perspectives shared throughout the initiative. Beyond its function as a report to stakeholders, it is intended to serve as an authentic and inclusive memento piece for the women who took part, providing them with a lasting record of their involvement.
