When creating the brand identity for Boann, a new wine bar and café near Trim Castle, we aimed to combine the mythology of the Gaelic River Goddess with a contemporary, welcoming atmosphere. The brand needed to evoke a sense of history and nature, while appealing to modern tastes. Design ideas include using flowing, water-like visuals and organic materials, reflecting the goddess’s river association. Subtle Gaelic patterns, paired with elegant typography and a warm, earthy colour palette, to blend tradition with sophistication, creating an inviting, timeless identity.
Curved lines and fluid patterns were integrated into the logo, signage, and interior accents, evoking the movement of water. A colour palette inspired by nature—soft blues, greens, and earthy tones—enhanced the connection to the environment while creating a calming, relaxed atmosphere. Subtle Gaelic motifs were incorporated into the branding, ensuring the cultural significance of the name was woven into the design. These motifs appeared in decorative elements like wall art, menus, and branding materials, while remaining understated to avoid overpowering the modern, clean aesthetic. This balance allowed the space to feel both rooted in tradition and fresh, appealing to both locals and visitors.
The café’s wine and food offerings were also curated to reflect the brand’s identity, focusing on locally sourced ingredients and sustainable practices, connecting the culinary experience to the natural world that inspired the goddess Boann.
