When our design studio in Cathedral Buildings was burnt out, in a random act of arson, we were lost.

It was a characterful building full of small, creative businesses that brought life to the heart of the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast. One of the last examples of multi-use spaces in the city bustling from the street to the rafters. Studios for artists, designers and photographers, clothes shop, coffee shop, dressmakers shop, hairdressers, accountants, fiddle repairs in the attic. Listed, and one of a kind.

These hoarding drawings, made using charcoal retrieved from the ruins of my studio, celebrate the people that lost their businesses and creative practices. The writing is an invitation to think about how we can create space for the beauty, passions and joy that a city should resonate with. To create somewhere that we can all thrive together.
