Design Declares Ireland is part of a global community of designers, design studios, agencies and institutions aimed at harnessing the tools of the design industry to tackle the climate and ecological emergency.
The Design Declares Ireland Playbook is a physical reference tool that brings together the movement’s 8 Acts of Emergency with insightful interviews and real-world local case studies. Designed to inspire, guide, and empower, the Playbook serves as a source of reflection and a call to action, equipping the design community with practical pathways to drive change.
The Playbook is structured as a hands-on guide. Checklists, tips, tools, and curated links to further reading extend its impact beyond its pages, while ‘Did You Know’ insights highlight the often-overlooked impact of design and digital tools.
Sustainability was central to the Playbook’s production process. Each design choice was made with environmental responsibility in mind: a compact A5 format to minimise waste; two-colour printing to reduce ink use; recycled grey-board and FSC-certified papers; and thread-sewn binding, eliminating metals, glues, and plastics while ensuring full recyclability.
The Playbook was made possible through the support of the Creative Ireland Climate Action Fund, with lead partners the Institute of Designers Ireland and 100 Archive.
