The Brief
ESERO Ireland, part of the European Space Agency, needed a new website to engage teachers, students, and the wider public with the excitement of space and STEM education. The previous site had become fragmented, with resources scattered and usability barriers that limited engagement. The design challenge was to create a platform that served multiple audiences seamlessly while reflecting the innovation and wonder of the space sector.
Our design intent was to reimagine ESERO’s digital presence as a clear, accessible, and future-proofed platform. We prioritised usability, accessibility, and discoverability, designing a streamlined architecture, flexible templates, and an engaging visual language. By combining intuitive navigation, dynamic content pathways, and a refreshed brand aesthetic, we aimed to create a website that not only supports teaching but also sparks inspiration for the next generation of scientists and space enthusiasts.
The Solution
The new ESERO Ireland website delivers a modern, accessible, and flexible platform that connects teachers, students, and space enthusiasts to resources and opportunities in the space industry.
A complete restructuring of the site architecture simplified navigation and enabled tailored content pathways for teachers. A new filter system allows resources to be explored by subject and education level, making discovery quick and intuitive. Improved search, categorisation, and content organisation ensure that users can always find what they need.
The visual design emphasises clarity and consistency. To create a connection between space and design history, we used Futura as the heading font. A timeless geometric typeface which was famously the first font to land on the moon. We also refined the ESERO brand colour palette, adapting it for digital use to ensure greater accessibility across screens. The darker UI theme reduces eye strain and contributes to energy efficiency by lowering power consumption on screens. We also wanted to create an image rich website, the ESA has a rich collection of images that provoke wonder and awe in any viewer.
To support long-term scalability, we built modular templates with reusable and repurposable components. This flexible system enables ESERO to update and expand its content easily, ensuring the website is adaptable and easily expanded upon in the future.
The result is a modern, distinctive and engaging platform that embodies the excitement of space while empowering teachers and inspiring students. With clearer navigation, smarter content organisation, and a flexible design system, ESERO now has a future-ready website that amplifies its mission of bringing the wonders of space into the classroom and beyond.
