‘Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon’ is a book-length poem by award-winning eco-poet Grace Wells, written to celebrate the town of Ennistymon, its past, present and future.

Grace and I worked closely on the visual concept, developing something that reflects Ennistymon’s unique sense of place whilst incorporating an environmental ethos into the book.

Ennistymon’s iconic bridge features on the cover, wrapping around the book cover and French flaps. The text is punctuated by plants found along the banks of the Cullenagh River Walk.

Both Grace and I were interested in producing something that was plastic-free and more ecologically sound. With this in mind, the book was printed on 100% recycled Shiro Echo paper and 100% recycled Cairn Lime card using vegetable-based inks. I strove to design something that used minimal amounts of ink and materials in order to make it easily recyclable.

The resulting book is a highly tactile object that you want to hold in your hand.

‘Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon’ was launched at the Hedge School Doolin 2023. To mark the publication, Doolin Arts planted 500 native tress together with Hometree on the day of the launch.
