The Galway Waterway Trails guide visitors along the River Corrib, Eglinton Canal and the coastal walk to Blackrock. They aim to provide an understanding and appreciation of the busy waterways and their surrounding ecosystem as well as their cultural, historical, and natural significance.

The trails consist of a suite of signage, from large totems to small wall-mounted discs so that an appropriate signage type can be used for each of the 20 locations. Each trail has a signature colour and a range of illustrations to interpret the wildlife and historical stories. Large signs have a perforated water pattern to communicate a sense of place while making them more wind-resistant. A concrete installation marks the point on the River Corrib where salt water and fresh water meet.
