SDCC needed more than a new visual identity. They needed a voice. One that was proud yet approachable, strategic yet human. A voice that could reflect the people and places of South Dublin while carrying forward the purpose we defined with them: Opportunity for All. Our challenge was to create a tone of voice that could unify services, inspire citizens and give SDCC a manifesto they could stand behind.

The Resolution

We crafted a tone of voice based on four principles: clear and intentional, accessible in language, solution-oriented, and confident in representing citizens. This approach ensured the Council would always communicate with honesty, simplicity and pride.

The most powerful expression of this was the launch film, created in close collaboration with Motherland. Written and led in-house, the script brought place, people and purpose together in a voice that was uplifting yet grounded, inspiring yet authentic.

Extract from the script:

From the foothills of the Dublin Mountains

To the edge of the city,

This is South Dublin County Council…

The script unfolded as a manifesto for South Dublin, weaving together identity, purpose and story. It introduced the new brand with conviction and humanity, balancing inclusivity with inspiration.

The film resonated because of its words as much as its images. It gave the Council a voice that staff and citizens could believe in. Copywriting was not decoration but design, shaping meaning, guiding strategy and giving SDCC the authentic voice of a modern civic leader.
