Living Streets Public Engagement and Branding – Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock and Coastal Mobility Route

Living Streets, funded by the National Transport Authority and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, is a major active travel and public realm project based in three locations in South Dublin. Our design team were tasked with crafting a versatile brand identity for the Living Streets project that would allow local communities to recognise key communications regarding the three project locations in Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock and the Coastal Mobility Route. The goal was to create a flexible, vibrant identity adaptable to various outputs such as leaflets, social media content, invites, posters, 2D exhibition designs, and videography. Emphasising creativity and innovation, we prioritised the target audience's perspective.

The branding, designed to be bright and approachable, centred around a community in movement and aimed to encourage viewers to engage with active travel. The main logo, featuring overlapping lines and soft edges, was tailored for each project strand with distinct colours. Community-based illustrations complemented the bold logo, adding a personable touch to sometimes information-dense consultations. Various forms of communications were consistently created, reinforcing the visual identity and brand language across an extensive project.

Across the Living Streets public consultations, more than 9000 submissions were received from members of the public and community groups. This included a new record of submissions received for an individual project by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. This demonstrates that the branding and engagement was very successful at encouraging people to get involved in the scheme.
