“When I Rise Up”, is an EP of poetry from the 1920s set to music, created in direct response to our unique global experience.

Taking an international approach to this project, Loah chose works by several poets who originate in Ireland, the United States, and Sierra Leone. The 7 track collection features works by poets Langston Hughes, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Gladys Casely-Hayford, Eva Gore Booth, W.B. Yeats, and Katharine Tynan, on compositions centred on voice, acoustic guitar and piano, reflecting the continuity of folk storytelling throughout the ages.

Tasked with creating the packaging and 12 page booklet to accompany the record — the theme of storytelling has been reflected and mirrored in the design; utilising the work of many talented photographers who captured the making of the EP and various promotional videos to go with it, to evoke a sense of comfort and familiarity.

The stunning mixture of analogue and digital photography along with the hand-written arrangements composed by Sallay combined in a 12 page booklet aiming to act as a diary of the creation, process and magic of the many talented people who inspired and brought the project to fruition.
