Meaning in Multiples: Contemplations on Risograph printing was a gathering event held in the NCAD Gallery, Dublin 8, across a two-week period in 2025. We designed a programme that included a series of workshops, public talks, and roundtable discussions, within a generative exhibition space. Through hosting this live, discursive gathering, the aim was to encourage contemplation of Risograph printing, to increase awareness around the capabilities of the machine, and to develop the conversation among a diverse group of participants and audiences within NCAD and beyond.
When approaching the design of the programme identity and promotional material, we looked to the Risograph printer itself, combining the concept of democratic multiples, technical diagrams, and the rotational movement of the Riso ink drums.
The identity was designed as black and white, with colour being introduced only when work started to be produced within the space, echoing the Risograph process of converting greyscale images to colour prints. Through Risoprinting all the identity assets, the textural quality of the pieces provide visual evidence of the process we are celebrating. Typography in the gallery space echoed the circular arc of the identity, expressing key phrases in relation to the theme, acting as prompts for further discussion over the course of the event.
