The National Print Museum approached us to create a new guide for the Museum. This guide would help guests navigate its collection, and exist as a worthy ‘take home’ piece.

The guide was designed to showcase the museum’s overwhelming collection of printing paraphernalia and to help tell the story of the history of printing in Ireland and throughout Europe.

The broadsheet sized guide hints at the machinery’s rich history in newsprint and the headings are all set using type specimens housed in the museum itself. The different types of composing, printing and finishing equipment have been cropped from their backgrounds to help them stand out, give them an abstract form and encourage further investigation. By rooting the design in classic print techniques and machinery, we aimed to bring the history of print to life in a new, contemporary incarnation.
