Older Adult Homelessness in Ireland

Older Adult Homelessness in Ireland is a report on the findings of the Simon Week 2025 conference Retiring into Homelessness. The design needed to reflect the seriousness of the subject while handling sensitive content with care and respect.

We prioritised illustration over photography to avoid intrusive or stigmatising imagery. Familiar domestic objects — armchairs, lamps and kettles — are used symbolically to suggest home, comfort and insecurity, allowing the topic to be explored in a dignified and empathetic way.

The illustrations are bold and restrained, with rough textures and imperfect forms that reflect both fragility and resilience. Simon Communities of Ireland’s distinctive yellow and black palette provides a strong visual identity, while clean layouts and generous white space support readability and navigation.

Outputs included a printed and online report, social media posts and web banner. Overall, the design supports the content without overpowering it, creating a calm and respectful tone that reinforces the report’s advocacy goals and encourages meaningful engagement with the issue.
