We were challenged to create a new vision and a new name for what was a transient concrete space in the middle of Tallaght. The idea is to create the starting point for a new cultural space that connects the Rua Red Gallery, The Library and the Civic Theatre and that can become a place for events to take place, for people to gather, a space where people go to rather than pass through. We decided to work with the community to create a new name and identity that would connect Tallaght to its history. The name Tallaght derives from a Greek Prince called Parthalán who landed in Tallaght in Myth. The identity is made to be flexible, with shields like Greek shields to represent, reading, art, dance, music, community, flexible and fun, equal in Irish and English. The square has already been redeveloped with new landscaping and events have already taken place giving the people in Tallaght a connection with their past and a place to connect going forward.
