Snapshots of Sjögren’s is a photovoice project exploring the lived experience of people with Sjögren’s disease, a complex autoimmune condition often misunderstood and reduced to symptoms like dry eyes and dry mouth. In reality, it affects multiple aspects of daily life, with many experiences remaining unseen in healthcare and public understanding. The project invited eleven people living with Sjögren’s to document their everyday realities through photographs and reflective narratives, later expanded through interviews and group discussions to shape core themes.

The primary outputs included an exhibition and a designed booklet that present these images and stories with clarity and respect, ensuring the participants’ voices remain central. Created for both clinical and public audiences, the publication offers an accessible window into the challenges, adaptations, and emotional obstacles of living with a chronic condition.

The public exhibition launched at RCSI on World Sjögren’s Day, showcasing the work at scale, inviting reflection and dialogue through large-format prints and a panel discussion with patients, clinicians, and researchers. Together, the booklet and exhibition use visual storytelling to deepen empathy and enhance understanding of an often-invisible disease.
