Tales of the Otherworld jacket design

Jacket design for an anthology of Irish ghost stories as chosen by newsreader Anne Doyle

The brief for Tales of the Otherword was to showcase Anne’s love of Irish ghost stories and her selection of her favourite tales by various Irish writers. The tone of voice was to be slightly camp, revealing a side of her hitherto unknown to the Irish public.

The design approach was to lean into the Gothic style focusing on an image of Anne Doyle. Various directions were tried, from silhouettes to photography before art directing the illustrator Lauren O’Neill to produce the final cameo. The other illustrated details are printed in a hot rose foil, the overall impression is of stepping over the threshold into Anne’s world.
