The Sunflower Children’s Hospice Branding

The Sunflower Children’s Hospice will be the first dedicated children’s hospice west of the Shannon and only the second in Ireland. Right now, families in the west of Ireland have no local hospice facilities for children. The Sunflower Children’s Hospice will change that, offering specialist care, sensory spaces, playrooms, and family support services closer to home.

Located in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, it will provide respite, comfort, and a safe space for families. A place where children can be cared for with dignity and families can find support, hope, and glimmers of joy.

Our task was to create a brand that was welcoming and warm and that children and families could interact with. After meeting with the team and hearing the stories from families and care givers we knew we needed to develop a brand that could be adaptable and most of all was caring.

The Sunflower was mandatory to have in the brand so we used this to create “Sunny”, our sunflower character to become a distinctive and recognisable symbol of The Sunflower Children’s Hospice.

Sunny comes to life throughout the Hospice and various communications by creating new versions of Sunny to interact with different spaces, for example we have Sunny listening to music for the sensory room, with a crayon for the craft area and wearing a cape being brave. He also comes to life as our mascot and in teddy form. Sunny will be there for children as they visit the hospice and be a familiar face as they move through the different areas of the hospice.

The visual language is bright and full of graphic elements to bring the brand to life.

The Sunflower Children’s Hospice will ensure that no child or family faces their journey without support, dignity and care.
