Climate Action

Brand identity design for Offaly County Council's new Climate Action initiative aimed at accelerating a green transition both within the organisation and throughout the county. 

A key consideration was that the Climate Action identity had to strike a balance between standing out distinctly, and seamlessly coexisting with the pre-existing Offaly County Council brand. Beyond crafting an uplifting visual identity, the project aimed to create an awareness campaign that would ignite environmental action county-wide. 

To ensure cohesion the outcome drew its initial inspiration from the fundamental shapes and colours featured within the Offaly County Council primary logo. The logo mark that was developed, and its placement, subtly alludes to a degree symbol, while the gradient colour treatment echos the fluctuations in temperature observed on weather charts. Cooler primary hues of blue and green were chosen to offer an aspirational vision of combating global warming.

In close collaboration with Offaly County Council's Climate Action team, we identified a series of 'Climate Actions' and developed corresponding icons to aid in conveying Climate Action's role within the state body.

A campaign call-to-action, "Let's Create a Better Future" was developed. The resolution was for this message to sit alongside images of people from Offaly within the ethereal boglands that define the county. Sense of place was integral to the campaign, ensuring it resonated with Offaly's diverse stakeholders, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.

The design team collaborated with midland-based photographer Tanya Cullen of Bronte Photography, who captured the raw beauty of Offaly. The soft and muted tones of these images provide a striking contrast to the vibrant colours of the Climate Action brand elements, forming a visually compelling narrative.
