The task at hand involved crafting a distinctive visual identity for the eyewear brand 'de Siún,' which is associated with Dublin's renowned opticians, Optica. The primary goal was to establish a vibrant and youthful aesthetic that would set this new brand apart from Optica's existing line of eyeglasses, Wolfhound, which is inspired by Irish heritage. This creative journey was highly collaborative, as our team worked closely with the creative founders Deirdre Young and Donal MacNally.

The word de Siún is the Irish translation of Deirdre’s surname, Young, therefore it felt appropriate for the brand to have a vibrant and youthful look and feel. A strong, dynamic logotype was created to echo the bold and graphic eyewear designs found within the de Siún collection. In order to create a versatile brand identity that could adapt over time we also developed a ‘dS’ brand mark derived from the primary logo.

Colour played a pivotal role in shaping the brand, drawing inspiration from Deirdre's preference for cool, fresh tones with an unexpected pop of hot pink. The primary blue, reminiscent of Deirdre's favourite colour found in the glasses collection, called 'workwear', became a prominent feature. Additionally, the brand incorporates playful watercolours contributed by Deirdre.

One of the key motivations behind this collaboration was sustainability, reflecting Deirdre and Donal's shared commitment to The FACTORY's mission of using design to positively impact the environment and society. Notably, the design process, itself, was powered by The FACTORY's self-generated solar and wind energy.
