Kid Karate Midnight Show [2015]

We were approached by Kid Karate to create a poster for an upcoming midnight show to be held in Whelan’s. We thought about the meaning of midnight and the ways in which it is represented both visually and numerically, particularly focusing on the idea that it can at once be the end of a day and also the beginning.

This duality formed the basis of our approach, centering around the use of contrasting typefaces in Christian Schwartz’s restoration of Neue Haas Grotesk and Hermann Zapf’s Optima.
