RTÉ Player International (2015)

RTÉ Player International is an iOS iPhone and iPad app that allows people outside of Ireland to watch RTÉ programmes live and on demand. As a ‘freemium’ service, users can browse and explore all available content on the app, watch an unlimited amount of free programmes, and then purchase a monthly subscription to gain access to all regularly updated programmes and catalogue content.

Led by RTÉ Digital, the product was designed and developed from concept to completion in collaboration with Nice Agency, London.

The design of the app evolves from the existing domestic RTÉ Player but introduces extra content areas like Collections and Boxsets, plus additional features such as a smarter search and content recommendations once a user has finished watching a programme. The design of the product aims to create a reliable service with excellent streaming quality that allows a user to find interesting content quickly and easily.

The visual design established during the development of the app was then further enhanced into a visual language system to roll out across all Marketing material as well as monthly illustrated Collection images and daily/weekly Social Media communications.
