Catalogue for photographer Noel Bowler’s exhibition in the Gallery of Photography. The images reveal the quiet transformation of residential, industrial and rural locations into spaces where Ireland's Muslim communities gather to pray.
The sparse and subtle aesthetic of the images required a restrained design, and served as a counterpoint to the paranoia of the time concerning the spread of Islam. A small budget meant that the materials had to be used to their fullest – the black board cover adds solidity, and the exposed black fore-edges create a barrier between the unassuming cover and the interior images.
